Hi soccer families - Soccer Referee certification training is underway. If you are 13, you are eligible to sign up.
Ref training is mostly online and the online portion probably takes about 8 hours. Most new refs can do it in less than a week. Then there is a field session that lasts 2-3 hours and will be held at various locations around the state.
Generally, new refs get certified in July/August or Feb/March, just prior to the fall or spring seasons. Fall is a good time to do it as your certification will last through 3 seasons (till end of 2025).
It will cost about $150-$200 (cert fee and uniform) to sign up. WAM will reimburse $75 if he/she refs 10 WAM games in a season (which is very doable if you are available to work). A new ref can expect to make about $200-$250 if they work 10 games (as an AR on young REC games) and there are a number of opportunities to make more if you can travel a little. As you gain experience and start working centers and doing older games, your pay will increase. A hard working young teenage ref can easily earn $500 in a season and as you get to 10th/11th/12th grade, there are premier (NEU/Vale) games that pay $60-$100 per game.
